Simple Machines at Pk3

The PreK-3 students at Jose De Escandon STEM Elementary are exploring Simple Machines and having fun. Students learned about simple machines and how they work. Students observed a simple machine in action and different ways that we can use simple machines in our everyday life, then students created a simple machine using a plastic pudding cup, wheel and axle. The students were initially asked to push an object on a simple chair for a distance of 3 feet. Each student took turns pushing an item on a chair. All students struggled. Students attempted to complete the same task using a wheel and axle and the excitement in the room grew to cheers and jumps of excitement. Students discovered how extremely easy the task was by adding this simple machine. Students recycled their pudding cups and created a fully functional little cart. Students in Mrs. Blassingame’s class used their simple machines to haul items from one location to another. It’s amazing what our littles are doing. Escandon PRIDE!
